There’s a phrase that endeavours to describe a series of troubling events. The phrase suggests that when things get bad it’s as if all hell broke loose.
Interesting phrase.
It’s an especially interesting phrase when those circumstances are viewed with the benefit of hindsight. Surely no one wishes for anyone to go through the pain of the death of a child. Certainly no one in good conscience would seek to see someone’s job taken away. Divorce, loss of the close-knit friends that were usually reliable, physical ill-health, mental torments and the gnawing sense of life being worthless – those aspects are not pleasant, they’re not delightful, there’s nothing that brings joy to the soul.
And yet …
He is present and remains faithful in the pain. He is present through the tears. He is present to mourn as we mourn. He is present to listen as we vent and rage and question why. He is present.
Sometimes in the midst of the broken pieces of life’s devastation, as we look to Him, He restores us. He allows those broken pieces to be shards of a monument that still reflects His faithfulness. As He lives up to His promise to still allow us to experience the abundance of life, the brokenness is a part of the process of healing and wholeness.
Sometimes when the present has been shattered, it is the end of a season. Just as it is the end of one season, so it also promises an opening into the new season with Him. It is a new season of the unknown. It is a new time where a lot of what could have depended on is gone. Yet it is a time to depend on the one who is present to lead us from the old to the new.
Sometimes from that which was all hell breaking loose, the light of heaven can emerge to usher in consolation, peace and restoration.
Sometimes …
