True growth never takes place in your comfort zone.
I am a big fan of the comfort zone. I like the concept, I like it a lot. The familiarity, the sense of rest and being at ease with matters that are designed for you to keep going with the minimum of effort.
I am, however, also a big fan of growing. I like the experience, I like it a lot. Being better for going through whatever was necessary to emerge better. The tussle, the frustration, the agonising, the discomfort – that ain’t so enjoyable – but hindsight and the outcome makes it all worthwhile.
How can I be a fan of both? They seem to contradict each other, right? Not necessarily.
What if there’s a design and a plan for the expansion of the comfort zone – not just for your comfort but for the comfort of others? What if there’s a design that sees others benefit and live more comfortably, because of your commitment to grow? What if the best comfort zone isn’t your comfort zone, but the one you contribute to creating for others? What if your example leads others to likewise not just enjoy their comfort zones, but also go onto desire to also contribute to creating comfort zones for others? Others who struggle to have a true place for rest, familiarity and enjoying a degree of ease.
Maybe there’s an example for us to look for. An example of a commitment to do what it takes to create an environment for people to enter and enjoy rest.
