Glad I Lived To See This

Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
    as you have promised.
I have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared for all people.
He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel! (Luke 2:29-32)

Some people have been waiting for a long time for some sense of salvation.

They have been waiting for the promise for a long time and they did not even know they would live to see it happen. Salvation – to be rescued and taken out of a bad situation into a much better situation. Salvation – where that which has been ravaged is restored to a state of newness and goodness. Salvation – where that which sought to depress and oppress is defeated and overcome.

Simeon is a man who is described as someone who has the Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit that gives him the patience and the eager anticipation to wait. Wait for the coming salvation. Wait because he will see it.

And he sees it.

It’s incredible that he gets all hung up and excited about an 8-day old baby. But he knows, because now he’s seen it.

His voice chimes in with the host of other voices declaring how special this child would be. His voice reaffirms to the startling reaction of Mary and Joseph, just what a wonder this child would be. For He ushers in salvation and it’s a privilege to live to see it.

It makes me wonder what response it would bring to others today if they get a glimpse of who has come to bring in salvation. What reaction would it cause to give others a view on the one who brings salvation? What it would mean to get others chiming in their voices in praise at the salvation to experience?
