There was a conversation I was having with a friend and they were talking about collaboration.
The conversation reminded me of aspects of a background that I used to know. In this environment, there was a greater concern for retaining information than for collaboration. I could understand the concern to not allow things to be compromised and corrupted. Protecting against that is very important. Yet that concern in itself lead to stifling of genuine growth because the source of information was extremely limited. Also a problem with that is how that approach doesn’t leave itself open for cross-examination and strengthening under scrutiny.
There was, of course, the other end of the spectrum. Some settings were so open to different ideas that there was something to grab onto novelty schemes and teachings. In doing so, there was never a sense of respect for truth that didn’t need to be jazzed up.
The beauty of the spectrum, however, is that there are different elements that don’t have to live on the extremes. It really is a privilege and honour to discover through collaboration. Working on things with others, inputting your stuff and seeing what the other has to offer and checking it out to see what comes from it. As a result of such interactions and collaborations relationships are developed and a greater appreciation for life comes from the experience.
Reflecting on that conversation with my friend, got me hankering again for those experiences …
