Patience – A Priceless Gift

People have been patient with me.

Not everyone, obviously. Some just did not have the time to wait for me to get it. Some were frustrated that as they saw it, someone like me should have already been behaving and operating at the standard. I was not, though. Part of that was ongoing struggles with consistency and my low opinion of myself. In any case, some didn’t have the time to wait, or to explore and discern how to engage with me. They did not have the time, so they moved on. To a degree I can understand that.

Yet people have been patient with me.

One of the reasons why they were patient with me is because their appreciation of grace gave them the capacity to wait knowing that God works in His own time in His own way. Different people grow at different paces and in different ways. Patience is not inactivity or passivity. Patience is sticking with the process and sticking with the person in the process even when they don’t want to be in the process.

Another reason why they were patient with me is that they are recipients of the patience of others. It takes time to be great. It takes time and intentional effort of being faithful while others are learning in the issues of life.

Sometimes I get frustrated by others. They just don’t seem to get it. Why haven’t they got it already. Surely they should know better by now. Thankfully, before I totally get lost in myself, God always has something there to remind me that patience is a precious and priceless gift.
