There is a genuine struggle at times going on in the inside of me to keep it together.
Lurching into cynicism or despair can sometimes be an appealing option. Reading things, seeing things, hearing things, observing things and it can all get a bit depressing. Questions arise as to whether it’s worth it. Are things ever going to change? Is the human condition destined to be like this all the time? Am I forever to be struggling like this with little sense of light and hope?
One of the things about learning more about God and how He reveals Himself is about remembering what He says about His character. Not just engaging with Him intellectually, but also running through with Him what He really means by who He says He is. That’s where songs can really help.
My wife remarked recently how she hadn’t heard me listen to any of this gentleman’s music in a while. There’s no reason for that. I think a lot of music is wonderful to hear. Yet listening to this track helped tremendously get a better perspective on things. Truly engage with the truth of who Jesus is and His amazing capacity to still relate to the individual.
It kind of goes towards why it’s good to sing and make melodies in your heart to the Lord as Paul of Tarsus suggested in his letter to the Ephesian church. In singing and making melody to the Lord. It can go a long way to adjusting the mindset to realities and truths.
