If Only … Searching, Finding, Treasuring

If only …

Clubs employ scouts. It is the job of the scout to assess possible new players for the club. It is one thing to come across a player that other clubs also fancy,  but there is a thrill to be had in discovering a player who has yet to be picked up by rivals. Especially if after searching for that one special player, you come across that player. Might be a little rough and uncultured, but the promise is there.

It’s one thing to have found that player, it’s another thing to be able to attract him to join the club. Then having signed for the club, it’s anther thing entirely to nurture and truly cultivate the player giving the space for character development, not just throwing him into the deep end and glorying in the performances. Accept the lows as well as the highs of the player’s growth. Knowing when to give opportunities and when to protect from the spotlight. Entrusting and investing faith in that player to be able to rise to the given occasion. Then the joy of seeing that player not just mature and excel for the team, but also go on to provide an example for other younger players to follow.

The search was extensive and the finding was courted and celebrated. The find was treasured by the process of due diligence, care, cultivation, nurturing for true flourishing and blossoming that would set off others.

There are examples of this happening in the world of sport. Yet it’s even more delightful to see that happen in life – in communities of grace growing to recognise who each other is in the Body of Christ. Acknowledging the crucial role we play in the Family and then supporting each other in the process as we ensure it’s perpetuated.

If only …
