We have a funny way of showing love.
I know some parents who worked every hour possible to earn as much as they could in an effort to provide the material requirements their loved ones needed to survive and hopefully thrive. As a cost of that the time they actually spent with their loved ones was minimal and that time itself was full of awkward silences and exhausted parents telling children just how exhausted they were.
We have a funny way of showing love.
Although a lot of life appears hectic, there are moments that could be invested in cultivating love in relationships, but that then tends to be further marginalised because of leisure pursuits. The amount of time and money invested in computer games, sports, retail outlets and tourist destinations is evidence enough that whatever we might tell a loved one about appreciating being with them, there are enough distractions that can demand so much from us that our idea of love can be somewhat diluted and even pathetic.
God knows we are designed to work and work well. He knows that we can put a lot into a lot, but He also knows the value of relationships is about the quality time invested in developing that relationship. Following His leading and expressing our love for Him is as much about the time we invest in Him as it is about what we do with that time. He goes as far as to say we can stop with the work for a period of time to just rest in Him. That kind of rest can do wonders not just for our relationship with God but as a result the relationship we have with others.
In fact quality time spent with God can have a massively positive bearing on how life works with others. It’s as if God set it up to have a great commandment that was as much about others as it was about Him. It’s so sweet to discover this and more as we take the option of spending quality time with Him.
Otherwise, it’s just a funny way of showing our love.
For His Name’s Sake
