When Will The Real You Emerge?

You’ve got to hand it to us as a species. We have done a tremendous job at making up all manner of guises and suits in which we can fit to pass the time of life and get by.

Some of the suits and guises have been really helpful in allowing us to see how useful we can be. Some of the suits and guises have actually done more harm than good in looking to distract us from issues that matter. Whatever it is, we have them at our disposal – they are on offer from the time we emerge from the womb to the moment we are fitted for the casket.

Sometimes, however, we recognise them for what they are – external trappings that don’t necessarily help us display who we really are. They may portray and present something of us, but definitely not all that we are. In fact it often takes certain situations and experiences for us to come to grips with how consuming these guises and suits are. When we have those encounters the question pops up – when will the real us emerge?

Not what the school said about us. Not what our friends have reassured us we are. Not what the job we do appears to indicate. Not what the nightlife might say. There’s something more to it than that. It’s not just a surface and superficial thing – it’s something deeper. When will that come to the fore? When will all those issues and expressions that have been lurking within make its appearance?

Maybe a time is coming soon, when someone will get to inform us of who we really are. Perhaps there will be no more places to hide and settle withing suits and guises.

Maybe.

Perhaps.

For His Name’s Sake
