Psalm 72 – Appeal for Righteous Rule

The glory of God is of utmost importance to the writer of this Psalm. It is fundamental that in all things the reputation of the Lord is maintained. That maintenence in this case is through the one who will rule.

Here the rule is not about the rich getting richer or dominant corporate forces oppressing individuals for every hour they can get from them. It is not a rule based on the greed of man. It not a rule driven by the fear of losing that power. Here, rather is righteous rule.

Righteous because the needs of the poor and the marginalised are what is brought from the outskirts into the mainstream. Where the least are remembered and catered for lovingly. This is a rule fueled by love and justice.

This rule is crucial to reflect the heavenly rule we were created to reflect on earth. It’s a great Psalm to consider today. It’s a great request for God to be glorified, however that end comes about.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
