They were written in another time in a completely different setting, yet with some of the Psalms I get a feeling they could apply to certain modern setting.
Psalm 12. I read it and I feel the cry in it for God to do something. Do something about the wicked. You can’t trust anyone, the Psalm kicks off with. That gets me in a gritty mood, a cynical, drab society full of people knowing nothing better than to use others for selfish gain and ditch them at the soonest opportunity. That works itself out in individual settings as well as corporate ones.
It’s what the psalmist also says about what the wicked say that is just as relevant now as it was then. Folks be thinking they can talk all they like and their talk will give them the advantage over others. The smooth talking or the strong talking, either way others will be intimidated by it. That being a key way to strike fear into others.
Thankfully then in that situation, when God speaks with purity, clarity, peace and power all the other characters is blown away. It is just to hope that He will do more of that talking to shut up those who keep using their mouth to silence others.
