Politicians are sometimes depicted as people who never give a straight answer to a question. Their responses and statements can be vague or slippery and where they want to escape they look for loopholes or establish their own loopholes through which they can ease their way out of commitments.
Their reputation is not a good one as a result. The thing is, however, in a lot of areas of life what politicians are accused of reflects the human condition. When confronted with certain situations it’s not always seen as being in our immediate interest to be forthcoming with the truth. We can make excuses and brush them off later as little white lies or just something we said in the heat of the moment. It is well within our nature for there to be a discrepancy between the words we use and the real message we should be sharing openly.
I mention this because I am well aware of my own capacity to do that and it sickens me. It sickens me to know the hurt it has caused. It sickens me to know the cost it has on the ability to build good relationships.
It’s another reason to thank God for His mercy that means the punishment due is never experienced and His grace that constantly gives the power not to do that sickening thing again.
