Journeyman Journal – Zoë

God owns everything.

Heaven, earth, everything in it – they’re His. He made them. They have His imprint in it all. Of all that He has created in this vast universe, on this planet, He deems it fit to directly engage with a particular species known as human. He creates us in His image and likeness, thus capable of relating to Him uniquely over all His creation.

He makes it clear that we come from Him and are thus His. There is nothing we can do to alter that reality, though we can choose to reject it in favour of one where He is sidelined or sought to be non-existent. Even when we do make that choice He does not withhold His character – His mercy and grace are evident in still providing for all whether they acknowledge Him or not. Indeed the greatest gift He gives us is life itself.

We know it’s precious because of the extent to which we go to preserve it, extend it, enrich it and nurture it. We would appreciate it even more if we referred to the Source and considered His plan and purpose for what we find of such precious value.

Life – so precious, so beautiful, so valuable, so worth the effort of truly understanding and celebrating. A great gift from a great God.

On 10th April 2010, my beloved wife gave birth to our third daughter. Her arrival signified a lot where Authrine and I were concerned. Her conception took place in a pivotal stage in our lives and we recognised in this birth was a sign of our great God blessing us with a great gift.

Six years on and like the six days of creation we have marvelled at the distinctive way in which this beautiful gift has gone from a baby carried in the arms of her older sisters, to a little madam who can inform her paternal grandmother that she is not a baby anymore!! She bounds with energy, she thrives on her movement, there is a zest for life in her that is as refreshing as it is exhausting for her old man. She’s tremendously sensitive and switched on to what’s going on around her. She has great physical dexterity and astound others with her proficiency for dance and this is but just part of her expressive joy befitting her name.

I am humbled to have been so blessed with her as a fundamental part of the family. I give God thanks and praise for giving her to us for this season in her development. As our lives help her to see His pivotal role in our lives, I hope she will give herself back to the one who owns her and has given her the precious gift for which her name derives.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
