Journeyman Journal: Credentials

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. (Exodus 20:2 ESV)

This was a fascinating step on the journey. Reflecting on the name the Lord shares with His people at this stage of His time with them it continues to be amazing the level of disclosure He shares. It’s reinforced though with His excellent line credential.

… who brought you out …

As we will consider later on where He brings them out from is significant. Yet the term to bring them out is great. After all their leader is a typical example of being drawn out in the midst of great persecution. Now however, the God that speaks is the God who delivered, He rescued, He took them out.

He did it – with a powerful hand, by mighty works in a way that let the world know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He has done this work. When I think about that it’s breathtaking to see him exercise His power not to crush, but to actually liberate.

In the same way, I am on this journey, because by his power He brought me out. His power did something that no one else and nothing else could ever do. Thinking about the expression of love exercised in this act of liberation is moving. It should then leaf me to have a similar desire for others to experience this power.

It leaves me in awe and wonder at His marvellous works in the past and it also speaks volumes about the awesome work He can do now and in the future as I reflect on what He has done. So many looking to be delivered and rescued and here is the one who has done and will do it.

Oh for the boldness to declare it and see His power demonstrate it.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
