Noise

Over in 1 Kings 18, the prophets of Baal knew how to make a loud sounds and kick up a fuss.

Their traditional altar activities made sense to them and as the prevailing religion in at least two countries there was no reason to believe their previous rituals wouldn’t be successful or appealing in these slightly unusual circumstances.

If they made enough loud sounds surely it would bring the desired results.

A few thousand years later folks conducting religious rituals are likewise convinced it’s all in the loud volume of sound made. There’s almost a competition to make the loudest sound as evidence of the best praise.

As with the prophets of Baal, however, sometimes all that’s going on is people making a noise that results in nothing more than migraine.

Just a thought.
