There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. (Exodus 11:6 ESV)
“Let my people go” is a phrase that must have driven Pharaoh up the wall. It’s a testament to his incredible stubbornness that despite the virtual breakdown of his country, he refused to comply with the instruction given by Moses.
The thing about this display of the power of God is that throughout it’s clear that God is being more than reasonable with Pharaoh. There are warnings, there are actions, there is reprieve and then there are further warnings. If some people were in a position to be able to make demands of someone this amount of courtesy in warning and reprieve would not be considered. Once is fair, twice is reasonable and three times would be considered generous. To give this many warnings would be inconceivable.
Yet some take the mercies of God for granted. Some view this same habit of warning and reprieve as permission to be lax in their approach to issues close to the heart of God.
God shows however, that He gives warnings, but there is always a final warning. Let’s hope we heed to the warnings and make the necessary changes before the final warning leads to the ultimate sanction.
For His Name’s Sake
