Exodus Extracts 10 – Generational Impact

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord .” (Exodus 10:1-2 ESV)

I wonder how many nations and people groups have an origins story like the people of Israel.

As the stubbornness of Pharaoh persists the systematic destruction of the cultural, economic and social infrastructure comes through the acts of locusts and darkness. The desperation of the situation even leads to Pharaoh negotiating a settlement for the departure of some but not all of those that belong to the children of Israel. The uncompromising stance of Moses – it must be all, even the livestock – only angers the might of Egypt to leave him in a position of ultimate defiance. Negotiations break down with the call of Pharaoh ringing out that he never wants to see that malcontent Moses again.

Preceding these break down in talks, though, is the word of God to Moses. The word that says the mighty works are for generational impact. These are amazing developments that are shaping a people from slavery to emancipation. These are events that a people should never forget. That’s why the children and grandchildren will hear it and pass it on.

If I experienced something so amazing where my slavery to sin was broken by the great rescue efforts of a Saviour, that would be worth retelling to generations to come.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
