Exodus Extracts 04 – I Will Part 2

Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do. (Exodus 4:12, 15 ESV)

Much of modern Christian life is based on someone’s ability to speak.

Church gatherings highlight and spotlight the main event being someone who can speak. Charismatic, influential leaders are noted for their ability to communicate and appeal to a wide range of listeners. So fundamental is it in considering one’s ability to lead that some are overlooked because of their lack of credibility in convincing communication. Likewise many are exalted into position because they have the patter down to a fine art.

If we took Moses’ word for it, as he was hoping God would, Moses would have still been a shepherd. Thankfully Moses’ reluctance and excuses gave the opportunity for God to put things into perspective where the whole speaking thing is concerned. Among the more fascinating ‘I will’ statements is God’s promise to be with the mouth of Moses and Aaron to teach them what to say. That is brilliant.

No matter how capable and competent an individual is, without God teaching and scripting the effectiveness of the communication will be lacking. Unless God inspires the content and manner of communication the headway we look to make will be stymied.

Similarly, God can communicate through whoever He chooses to communicate. It’s not for us to put up barriers of excuses why He can’t use us. It’s not for us to point out our lack of skill, training, competence and confidence. It’s not for us to compare ourselves to others in order to refuse Him.

It is for us to be reminded of God being with Moses, teaching and scripting him turning the cowardly into the confident by His presence. It’s for us to seek His presence with us at all times so that as we open our mouths to speak God and God alone will be heard.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
