There are times when I have a dim outlook on the way things are.
Take the Pastor-centric perspective on church. So much is expected of an individual far beyond any biblical outline for a role. In some contexts such is the exalted position that it’s almost like they are gods among mere mortals whose diktat should never be questioned. So vaunted are they that it doesn’t occur to people that they may be incapable of meeting the list of requirements and living up to the expectations. What doesn’t help, obviously, are those in positions who reinforce the stereotype rarely ever affording moments of true transparency to vulnerable, tired and weak people in desperate need of companionship and community.
It’s intriguing how that has an adverse reaction on how brethren relate with each other. It’s almost like the remoteness of the man in charge justifies others being distant, never experiencing the warm intimate love of God that enables the family of God to practice this value among themselves.
Thus it remains left to those who have responded to the call to practice among themselves what this life looks like.
