For quite a number of years, I was in an environment where for all the noise decrying the state of affairs nothing was done about it.
It was not unusual for the state of not doing anything was seen as a virtue. You weren’t being a troublemaker. You were not getting mixed up in messy things. You found your contentment in Christ and so could remain above the fray.
Sure from time to time it might get a little aggravating, but you could afford those little blips, before returning to the perspective of just holding the fort until Jesus returned.
Thankfully, someone had the good sense to slap me upside the head and wonder what on earth I was doing. He pointed me to a narrative of Scripture where people captured by a vision of God and His goodness could no longer just accept things the way they are. They saw in the light of God His glory revealed in the earth – glory that filled the world with grace, peace, love, justice, mercy and the overwhelming sense of God taking the broken and making it whole.
That’s not always practiced, but when it is the impact it makes, stirs me to accept that the time for accepting the status quo as all there is to life is over.
