Getting Straight To The Point

Some people prefer my wife because she is straight talking.

I can still recall a conversation I had with a friend where he asked me something innocuous and I just could not give him a simple straight answer. There was a story behind it. There was context to explain in it. There were concepts to ensure he understood what underpinned the answer I was about to give. My friend just looked at me with the eyes of a man who pitied the poor lost soul in front of him. It’s a tendency I know I have and it hey where it works it works and where it doesn’t work, I know I should just nod my head and let people carry on.

As a pedestrian, I am familiar with main walk routes from some of the different parts of the city centre. I tend to walk from where I am to work which is a leisurely 40 minute stroll or so. The route I am familiar with taking to get to my destination is to go up to the centre point and then walk my way down to my location from there. Yet on this occasion I was going from a different direction. Where I was considering going through my typical route, I got the call to just keep going straight rather than take the usual route.

It appeared a bit unusual and weird to go straight, yet as I kept on walking it became very clear that doing so saved time and avoided the climb and descent that would have been a bother if I had taken the route I usually took. The goal was to get to my destination and complete the purpose I was sent to do, so the word I got was a good word indeed.

It helped me considerably. It gave me the impression that perhaps it wasn’t just applicable to some of the paths that I walk.

For His Name’s Sake
