Abraham, Jacob, Gideon and Mary.
Not names you would usually associate together but they have something in common. They had a divine encounters that allowed them to find out who God called them to be. Sometimes it came through a name change. Sometimes it came from an angel, yet in each case the person in question was never the same again.
There is something about knowing who you are and knowing whose you are. So many wander around seeking to be defined by the going trends of the day. School, media, internal wrangling, all competing to tell people who they are and how they should be. So desperate to reach the defined heights of meaning in culture – career ambitious, financially driven, materially hyper conscious.
In all the clutching and grasping for prestige, there is an evident lack of substance and anything worthwhile when that is reached. The confusion can make the whole matter despairing.
So when God tells you who you are that makes all the difference in the world. Resting on words that can never fail gives you all the confidence and assurance you need to fulfil what He has said for you.
Just as Abraham, Jacob, Gideon and Mary can testify.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
