He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” (Luke 1:32-33)
There are times where a simple statement will have me transfixed. This is one of those statements.
Having studied politics for a while and having a more than passing interest in history, the quest to gain and retain power in a bid to leave a lasting legacy is something that has been a part of the story of Man for millennia. Military conquests, political manoeuvres, cultural shifts, philosophical statements have come and gone leaving much in the way of stories of victories and defeats. The common theme in every quest is their ultimate failure and demise.
So when Gabriel explains to a virgin that she is favoured because she will give birth to a Kingdom that will never end. That deserves further reflection and exploration.
