If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgement. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. (2 Peter 2:9-10)
The pursuit of the true will often bring us across the fake.
The importance of pursuing godly character becomes an even more pressing issue when we consider how the counterfeits are making their way in the community of grace by any seducing and convincing means possible.
Peter’s specific warning to his readers has modern applications. It’s clear that there are a variety of flavours in Christianity, not all of which ring true however appealing the approach may be. Those responsible for bringing in these alterations and toxic influences on the faith will have their comeuppance, but it is for those who value faith in Jesus to continue to be vigilant against attempts to compromise and hold a high regard for the truth.
It’s also reassuring to know that God has an outstanding record in rescuing those who look to live the truth in a world that revels in falsehood. It’s reassuring and should encourage us to keep on looking for and holding onto truth.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
