Rhythm and Flow

It’s not good to get hung up on routines, but it’s good to have routines in place that help make progress.

I started blogging because I liked the idea of an outlet for my interest in writing. I had read a friend’s blog which he used as a travel diary. I was really impressed with how he was able to document the episodes in his journey.

It was not my desire to emulate his style of blogging, but I did want to retain the element of faithfully and regularly documenting my own journey in life. Initially the cost of blogging wasn’t something to which I paid much attention. It was just something I did as and when I was inspired.

Something I would say to anyone thinking about blogging is to recognise what you want and why you want it. For me that changed over the years to the point I have reached now where blogging is a part of my rhythm and routine in life. You may have noticed that more often than not in the weekdays I’ll blog twice and ensure one blog entry per day over the weekend. More than anything it’s a form that works for me in terms of disciplining not just the reading but the active engagement in scripture and then also the recording of any other thoughts that come to mind.

The discipline of the daily Bible blogging is good for me to incorporate a lot of what I’m about together. So the by the grace of God, the plan is to keep that going for the time being. There have been the occasional spate of writing on a similar theme in the same time and that’s something as well that I want to maintain.

That’s about the rhythm of my blogging. It’s an active choice I make to do this and one that I believe is in line with the best use of my time and skills at this stage of my journey.

As I said, however, I am not getting hung up on the routine. Consistency in commitment is a challenge for me, so maintaining that on here is a good thing, but it is not replacing relating with my family and others. It is not a substitute for actual time meditating and considering God’s Word and how that affects my action. It is not a tick box for me to have done my God-bit. Likewise if there arises a time where I don’t blog for a day, it’s not the end of the world

That’s where sensitivity to the flow can help me recognise that not everything is static. Circumstances change and being adaptable to them is about getting in the right flow. Getting to that stage of adaptability sees the bigger picture as the journey to the tree of life, not the means by which that is done.

My respect for bloggers who commit themselves to blogging daily shoots up when I consider whatit takes to do so. Yet this is not a thankless task. The main approval I get is from the inner me that encourages me to keep going. That sense of doing the right thing in the right way is also a compelling quality that others address to me. I look to excel in doing the right thing the right way all the time. Even when that rubs people up the wrong way.

The destination and the Hope in that journey is what’s worth sticking to the journey and appreciating where the time for rhythm is needed and listening to the door would be redundant.

My desire is to have that Kingdom focus at the centre of whatever is dne -and remind ourselves of that, so we don’t hold up the flow or miss our beat in the rhythm of God.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
