But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. (Genesis 39:20-23)
When God is with you.
When your brothers reject you, there is still hope when God is with you.
When your sold into slavery, there is still a way out when God is with you
When you are falsely accused, there is still justice when God is with you
When you are imprisoned, you are still at liberty when God is with you.
Reading all about Joseph’s trials in this chapter shows the amazing faithfulness of God and how life can still prosper when things take a downward turn when God is with you.
God’s presence in Joseph’s life didn’t stop bad things from happening to him. The fantasy of life being all fine and dandy when we know God is just that – a fantasy. There was never a guarantee of pain-free life. There was the promise of presence through it all when we go through it. That presence in itself can help us see the good, however bad it gets.
Sometimes it is only the presence that makes life bearable. It is only the presence that allows us to see it worth pressing on and keeping on with the good works in the light of opposition from within and without.
Though the storms of life may rage, we are able to persevere when God is with us.
