So the weak animals went to Laban and the strong ones to Jacob. In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys. (Genesis 30:42, 43)
To trick your nephew once is tough. Laban just didn’t know when to leave a good thing alone..
They say once bitten, twice shy. Jacob was not a trickster for nothing. Getting hoodwinked by his Uncle the first time had led to brother Jacob enduring years of pregnancy warfare between his wives, the servants of his wives and the multitude of children that came out of it. You had better believe that when it came to dealings with his Uncle again, Jacob was not about to get messed around again.
So Laban on this occasion was the one to get hoodwinked. This is why it’s so good to know you are blessed by God – and that’s not about having stuff, that’s about having a relationship with God who is with you. If God is for you – as Pharaoh found out with Abram and Abimelech found out with Isaac and Laban found out with his nephew – none can stand against you. Oh sure they will make a stand against you, but even the smartest people can be out-smarted.
It pays not to mess with a blessed person of God.
For His Name’s Sake
