Genesis: 21 – When God Comes Through

Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” (Genesis 21:6, 7)

There are those who don’t believe there is a god and there are those who don’t believe God.

Lives of faith may not always challenge either group of people, but it certainly gets them considering again why they believe what they believe. This is especially when those lives are played out with the miraculous that can only be explained by the intervention of a superior being.

That is the only way to explain how on earth a couple who were more than aged were able to produce a child through natural birth.Otherwise there really is no way this could have happened. There is no explanation that could be offered for it, other than God Himself brought this about.

Not only that, but God came through on His word. He proved himself – not that He needs to – to those that walked with Him by bringing to pass, exactly what He had said before the time. Sarah’s response shows a rightful reaction from the initial dismissive laugh when told it would happen, to a laugh of incredulous joy at how God came through.

When God comes through against the odds we have every right to rejoice and again acknowledge He is the great one. As we testify of how God miraculously comes through in the life of faith, let it stir up faith in us all, even when we are sceptical of such a thing taking place. As faith overcomes fear, let it overcome that scepticism that prevents fully accepting that what He says will happen, will happen.

It’s a good story to rejoice in today, for as God came through for his faithful servant then, so He will come through for all those who put their trust in Him. He will fulfil His Word in our lives until that mission is accomplished, whatever it takes.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
