Foundational

When I reflect on my life, which I do from time to time, I realise that God loves me.

Yeah. That’s right it’s a true story.

Here’s what I notice. There are episodes where I need to be corrected and not just corrected on the surface, but corrected at the core of my character. He takes His time and shines the light on the area that needs to be corrected right at the core. He also shares with me that it needs to be corrected because being at the core it affects all of me. What has happened is that I have adopted certain habits and thought processes and they are so well embedded I often don’t consider how destructive they can be.

In the beginning where there was darkness and chaos, God brought light to the situation by the power of His Word. Later when humanity was submerged in darkness, His Son revealed Himself to be the light of the world. As He showed the way to live it was clear that following Him was to turn on the spark in followers so that they too would be the light of the world. To keep the light on meant followers had to keep in relationship with the light. That was about relationship with God and relationship with others. All to be done in the light.

Relationships are not at their best in the darkness. Marriages are at their best in the light. Families develop best in the light. Churches operate at their best in the light. Communities function at their best in the light.

That’s a foundational truth from creation through crucifixion to consummation. Life is best lived in the light.

The repercussions of that brings us at odds with habits and thought processes that thrive more by the dark arts. We prefer to keep people in the dark about who we are. We prefer to keep certain things in the dark in an effort to ‘protect’ ourselves or others. We prefer to keep aspects in the dark to retain control, have the edge over another. All of this betraying a preference for the dark than the light.

Thank God for Jesus who as the Light shines through and exposes that which is in the darkness so we’re not captivated by the dark anymore. Thank God for Jesus that in Him there need be no more stumbling about and falling into pitfalls.

Thank God for Jesus who reminds us that the Light is foundational to everything we do.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
