I had the privilege of sitting in on an engaging bible teaching session. I was just in the audience, so I could just take in the good stuff coming my way.
The subject being taught was about the will of God and how to look for it. There was a particular part that I found arresting and it was worth mulling on it afterwards.
If I was to look for legal advice from a professional, that might cost me a significant amount of money. The more complex the advice the more money incurred. Businesses up and down the country are paying ‘experts’ thousands and thousands of pounds to provide strategic and tactical insight that will allow their business to find and exploit the cutting edge.
All this money sloshing about for a bit of insight, for a bit of smart thinking, for that tip and outline that could solve a matter or enhance a product.
While that is bandying about, the man James wrote this nearly 2000 years ago:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)
Now if I read that bit correctly, God is offering generous wisdom free of charge! It’s there for the asking. The key condition to the offer, however, is that if He says something it’s important that you trust and commit to it completely or else you’ll be a bit dodgy in more ways than one.
It’s quite remarkable, then, what is at hand for the believer. An opportunity to tap into the source of all wisdom, knowledge and understanding. A chance to embrace that and be steered in the right direction in all decision making, in how to endure a life where you’re under pressure to conform to others and not to the overriding priority of the Kingdom.
The study looked at the different ways that God communicates and the part that connected with this good news is how God will use other believers with the expertise in the right areas to be able to be conduits for His wisdom out-poured. That is to say that often vocational problems have an answer with a brother or sister in the family of God who can share it with you free of charge. That is to say if we develop the fellowship God calls us to have, we can be the very answer to the prayers that our own brothers and sisters are making.
Now just to have the wisdom to make the most of the opportunities to see how generously God is pouring out His wisdom to us who ask for it.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
