There is a one day First Aid course available for what is termed as Emergency First Aiders. I had the privilege of sitting in on such a course today.
As I did, my admiration for those who know their stuff as far as health is concerned increased. To think about the various things to bear in mind when conducting basic first aid is not something to take lightly. The value of human life and health was certainly stressed today even it wasn’t mentioned overtly.
The order given about what to consider in matters of first aid was Breathing, Blood and then Breaks (fractures). Learning CPR was fascinating in terms of the benefit it can have and the role it plays in potentially preserving life. The importance of keeping oxygen in the system even if the heart appears to have stopped was fascinating to consider as well.
The role of the oxygen we need in the air we breathe reminded me of something I had wrote about the Holy Spirit just yesterday.
Indeed you would really need to be ignorant not to consider the essential the Holy Spirit plays in the book of Acts. For the faithfulness and fruitfulness that takes place, even in the face of opposition, it could never have happened were it not for the very breath that the believers breathed, even the same Holy Spirit that filled them when they received the good news.
Just as breathing takes precedent in the physical body, perhaps it’s time that breathing took a key role in the Body of Christ. To truly behave as the Body, even as Jesus Himself was filled, anointed with and lead by the Holy Spirit, so must we.
Often we believe other things can help us be like Jesus. If we do more stuff, if we read more stuff, if we write more stuff, if we … if we … if we … Perhaps, however, if we allowed the same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead to fill us, inform us, shape us and direct us in the Way of the Master, that will be enough.
It’s not easy because of the conditioning that needs to be addressed on the individual and corporate level. There is so much that needs reprogramming. There is so much transforming to do by the renewing of the mind. These are all more than capable when we rely completely on God to breath in us the breath of life and allow us to enjoy this abundant life that was promised.
Seeking Him not just as the bread of life and the water that never runs dry – exalting in the one through whom we live, move and have our being.
For the sake of Body Life, it’s about time we learned again to rely on the truth as indicated by God’s leading in His Word.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
