The cross cultural appeal of the gospel is something I find hugely endearing.
I find now that there are people like me in and among people very much unlike me that I would not have been able to recognise if it wasn’t for the Spirit of God that brought us together. By being like me the essential commonality is Christ. That connection is amazing to experience and just to think I put up barriers of age, ethnicity, culture, denomination and others that stops me from experiencing this.
I think about me putting up those barriers and then I mourn at how we as cultural or ethnic groups actively promote the division, virtually reinforcing and endorsing the barriers. What a crying shame.
I heard a story today about one sister who went into a shop and came across a pleasant atmosphere. When she met the owner she noticed something about her, and although they were from different church backgrounds, different doctrinal positions and different cultures the connection they felt in Christ made them share some profound testimonies of God’s goodness.
Hearing that episode really challenged me to again seek God to do what I can to practice this glorious cross cultural reality of the gospel.
