See What More

There’s more to it than that.

It is amazing how easy it is to fall into the thinking that this is all there is. By that I mean the life that you live, in your particular context with the aid of your experiences and cultural backing.

The explosion of information through various forms of media gives the impression that we can have broad horizons. The view that we come from, however, is still narrow. Whether it’s civilised and liberal or traditional and rural the view is relatively narrow.

That’s not a bad thing, necessarily. We are not supposed to be on a journey to cram the whole world into our experience. It is good, however, to have those times to realise there is more to life than our perspective.

For those who follow Jesus that should have implications for how express what it is to be church. Holding to practices that are culturally fixed might be more about our desire to stay the same, then to appreciate that there is more to life than what we see, which brings about change.

Doing the same things for the same people in the same ways is not the best way to seek to engage with people who are not the same.

For His Name’s Sake
