Home – Part Two.
There’s a song that the Beatles released back in the day called In My Life. It’s a great song to put on to get all nostalgic about the people and places that make the story of your life.
It was a fitting tune to hear today as I visited Wellingborough for the first time in years. Wellingborough, for the uninitiated, is a town in the heart of England – well that’s what my biased geography teacher told me. It’s the place I was brought up for the first 18 years of my life.
I was there for a sad occasion as a family relatively was laid to rest. Whilst there I came across a number of pivotal people in my development from boy to man. Being there to say goodbye to someone, whilst saying hello to folks I had not seen and talked to in a long while was a moving occasion.
During the time there I managed to walk around some of my old haunts and some of it was very different, where some areas were very familiar and had been seemingly untouched in the 20 years since I left there.
What I also picked up on though, was how times have changed and this is no longer my home. It has changed, it has moved on and to a degree so have I. That’s not a bad thing. Those memories are precious and vital to who I am and I am grateful for what they mean to me and how they have contributed to an opportunity to share how God has been good to me.
For all that, though, I live in the present. Home is about the Resurrection and the Life. Home is about our children and my wife. Home is about the sisters and the brothers. Home is about the loving each other. Home is more than a physical location, home is the base for love expressed through meaningful relationships that overflows into new opportunities to bless people friend or foe with the love that comes straight from Home.
I am grateful for that.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
