Sensitive people.
Not everyone understands. Not everyone has the wherewithal to cope with others in different emotional states. When sad things happen, it can often be like walking around on tenterhooks.
So those who can apply the right touch with the right word are worth their weight in gold. At work it would be easy to put up a shutter to what goes on with me. I find, however, that giving glimpses of vulnerability and transparency can be hugely helpful in allowing others to relate, to show sensitivity to your plight whilst not not going over the top.
Today I was the recipient of a number of expressions of concern from colleagues. Whether in emails or just in a quiet word of assurance. It was touching to see and something I am very grateful for.
