Jesus gets a great deal of attention and rightly so.
In chapter 5 Jesus starts antagonising the Jewish leaders because of the sheer temerity of equating Himself with the Father. Indeed He talks about His relationship to such a close degree He essentially says everything He does comes from His Father.
It’s bad enough ‘breaking the Sabbath’ as He did with the healing of the lame man, it is even worse to say you had divine fatherly permission to do so!
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. (John 5:19, 20)
It is this bond though that is particularly striking for any follower of Christ. In a world where people are in need of healing, we can take a leaf out of the life of Jesus by looking to the Father. We can follow the example of the Son by seeing the heart of the Father towards us and freely submitting our lives to see what He is doing and being involved in it in our day and age.
What do you see the Father doing today?
For His Name’s Sake
