This wonderful world is made up of a lot of different types of people. Their contributions to the world make it what it is today and we need a lot of the different types of people to truly help the world keep on turning.
I am not saying that other types of roles and people are not important, but here are ten types fo professions and vocations which hold great admiration to me. These are in no particular order.
1. Writers
Creative types always intrigue me. Those who create by the power of the word are the ones that intrigue me the most. It’s the toughest gig of all.
2. Cleaners
Making a mess doesn’t require a lot of work. It is almost as though it’s something we do naturally. I have a lot of time, then, for people who take the messes we make and clean them up, so we can make the mess all over again.
3. Taxi Drivers
I like setting a taxi driver off on one. Let me see now, something about family? Nope, no bite. How about touching on one of his hobbies? No, nothing yet. Shall I mention something about the news? There she goes, off on one, giving it some on the matter and before I know it the journey is a thoroughly enriching one. I get more than my money’s worth. I love taxi drivers on the whole.
4. Barbers
Treating hair as a service is far more than just the short back and sides. It’s the whole deal of being served in a way that makes you feel like it’s good to be served. Great barbers make me feel as though I am a king and it’s their privilege to engage with the king. To get that just for a level 1 shave, is artistry at its best.
5. Comic Book Artists
Someone may have the words, but I never cease to be amazed by what a graphic novel artist can do with that. How they can bring to life entire worlds of such intricate detail and diversity. It’s a superb gift to the world able to reach people of all ages.
6. Receptionists
The first face we see in an organisation sets the whole tone of the experience we are about to have. Nothing beats a friendly smile and an efficient manner. Receptionists have such a responsibility and good ones do it in such a way, it leaves a pleasant after effect.
7. Costume Designers
I often take clothes for granted until I am struck by how well certain people are decked out. I consider the thankless task at times it can be creating these pieces with little recognition, but their application to the task is praiseworthy.
8. Producers
Whether a play, a movie, a concert or a gallery there’s something about the person who has the complete overview of what it should be. the producer is literally the one who makes it happen. She doesn’t do it on her own, by any means, but that capacity for the bigger picture and how the parts fit in it, is quite something.
9. Nurses
Blood, gore, crying, wailing, moaning, long hours, complications, upset loved ones, complicated procedures, misunderstanding and mistreatment from those above and those below. The lot of the nurse finds its reward often against great odds, but their lot and their reward is far greater than most. I salute them.
10. Teachers/Trainers/Coaches
Anyone who by word and example intentionally enables others along their journey has my admiration to the max. It’s hard enough determining your own path in life. To see others giving their time and energy to enable others to determine theirs in grace and humility is a joyful experience.
For His Name’s Sake
