Ten Qualities Of A Good Husband

It helps keep me humble to remember my longsuffering wife.

Aiding me in that task is considering the many failings and faults that I have committed against her and my regular routine of self-deprecatory comments I make in training sessions about the kind of man Mrs Dryden has to live with.

I know I am not that bad, but it’s good not to get ahead of myself.

With three daughters now, it’s good to leave a little something behind so that as well as having an example of how a father engages with his daughters, they are also aware of how a husband treats his wife. I don’t have all the answers at all, I am still very much a work in progress Yet I am and have been blessed by a number of good husband models to follow from my Dad, to my mentor; my brother to my best friend when I lived in Manchester and a number of friends who are at various stages of married life including brothers who have learnt from the pain of divorce.

From those experiences to date, if I left something for Deborah, Abigail and Zozo to consider ten qualities of a good husband, these would be them, in no particular order.

1. A Good Listener

2. A Patient Conversationalist

3. A Sacrificial Lover

4. One Who Loves Spending Quality Time With His Wife

5. One Who Learns How To Love His Wife By Seeing How Jesus Loves His Church

6. One Who Learns How To Love His Wife By Seeking To Understand Her

7. One Who Is Clear On His Own Identity And Does Not Have It Inextricably Attached To His Wife’s Feelings

8. One Who Enables His Wife To Fully Be Herself

9. One Who Trusts His Wife With All His Heart And Does Everything Never To Hurt Her

10. A Humble Person Open To Correction And Adjustment From His Wife

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
