It’s unfortunate that so many associate laughter with something malicious, obscene or gross. It’s also unfortunate that some ‘spiritual’ types pour scorn on laughter. My brief journey in life has thankfully seen some benefits in good laughter.
Here are ten things I love about laughter, in no particular order.
1. Healthy laughter lightens the load. When I see people have a good laugh, everything appears to seem so much lighter.
2. That which provokes good laughter often reflects a joy filled life.
3. It’s a clever and observant mind that picks on the things that make us laugh.
4. Sometimes a good laugh brings a fresh perspective on something that may have confused before.
5. A good laugh reminds us that spending time being glum can often be a waste of time.
6. People can take things too seriously. I can take things too seriously. That is not healthy. A good laugh cures that.
7. Effective teaching often takes place in the midst of laughter. A good laugh leaves you open to be receptive.
8. A good laugh is infectious and that can change an environment and a relationship from something morose to something liberating and relieving.
9. Those who give good laughs are generous folks – it’s easy to be a joker seeking attention and approval – but those who give good laughs are happy to share so we all enjoy something good.
10. Laughter is a great response to the victories God gives. (Psalms 126:1-3)
