Solid September Sale: Sacking The “Why Me, Lord” Syndrome

Some things are not helping at all.

When I am in a tough spot many thoughts swirl in my head. Some swirl down the plughole, some swirl round the sink of the mind leaving the impression it’s here for the long haul.

One that often makes itself known in my cranium is that quandary – Why me ? Why do I have to be lumbered with these issues? Why can’t I just get a break? At the time it’s not an unreasonable query. After all, with what’s on my plate, I can’t be doing with more awkward cuts slapped on it.

The problem with the attitude is that it’s unhelpful. It doesn’t eradicate the challenge, but what it does is take the focus off what it should be on. After all, when these things are put on my list of things to do, someone evidently trusts me to get it done even if I don’t believe I can do it.

So rather than moaning, I should focus on God who obviously thinks I am able to apply His wisdom in this situation. Not only that, but He trusts me to rely on Him completely to make my way through the task.

What makes it worth my while in doing it, is the track record of faithfulness He has in these areas. Time after time, faced with challenges, He has never failed to show up and prove His wisdom and provision.

So it’s time to give the Why me, Lord syndrome the heave-ho. It can go down the drain with the other useless thoughts. In its place I can allow constructive thoughts to swirl and swell there, for His honour and glory.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
C. L. J. Dryden
