My friend and I were conversing about a shared passion.
The nature of the conversation was so uplifting and invigorating as we exchanged views that by the end of it I wanted to conquer the world. It was just as well, because the next day proved to be a trying day full of various challenges that sought to disturb me.
Evidently that conversation was just what I needed to set my mind in the place to encounter what was to come.
Of late I appreciate that the state of mind is the key to success and failure. Performance and productivity is intrinsically linked to the state of mind. Defeats are positively processed and channelled to support future victories. Wins are celebrated with joy that does not neglect important learning points. The mind stays focused on the source of joy and so it stays on track with what is to come.
I love the verse in scripture that informs us we need to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. I love it because it is ongoing. Renewing. It gives me hope for when my mind strays. It gives me hope for when it seems as though getting God is so overwhelming.
Bodily exercise is something that is more obvious to recognise. When people talk about exercising the mind, sometimes reference is made to quizzes and puzzles. Various techniques encouraged to stimulate ever taxing mental tasks are seen as the way to keep the mind in tip top shape.
Beneficial though those maybe, for the follower of Christ, thinking of Him is the best way to keep healthy (or get healthy). Thoughts of Him and His Kingdom is an invitation into eternity. It’s an invitation into an enormous diversity of truths, grace, love and holiness that gives godly perspective on engaging with the world in which we live.
It reminds me of that brilliant Christian song:
Think about His love
Think about His goodness
Think about His grace
That brought us through
For as high as the heavens above
So great is the measure of our Father’s love
Great is the measure of our Father’s love.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
