Getting Used To Being In Strategic Positions

It was not my favourite job.

My attitude didn’t help. I felt it was beneath me. I felt it was not fitting for one of my abundant talents and capabilities. (You can tell I am used to being modest.)

Thankfully I had a sobering experience that snapped me out of my pompous attitude. As I changed my attitude, so I began to pay attention to crucial factors. Such as appreciating quality management, supporting the genuine development of staff and acknowledging angels God sends to bring comfort and inspiration in any situation in which you find yourself.

Not too long after that job I progressed into a job that was a lot closer to what I love. I entered that job with a great deal of appreciation for the roles people play in life however that’s reflected in the pay. Each individual role is integral to the effective running of the organisation or it would literally be rendered redundant. That means there’s significant value in every role and thus in every person in that role. So it helps greatly that the person in that role embraces the value.

This helped me considerably both in the job I went on to do and then subsequent jobs. Each individual is strategically placed to enhance value in your job as they embrace the value of their own role. So the cleaner who comes in at 3:30pm, realising office workers are about to begin winding down, is of great value to the office workers not just in terms of keeping the place tidy. It’s in terms of investing a positive approach to work that stimulates further positive work from others.

People in management excel the more they allow every worker to embrace that value, work towards it and then exceed it. Every position becomes strategic – a passing conversation can lead to an awareness of things previously unknown. Complimenting someone on their efforts can boost confidence and lead to team morale sky rocketing. At its most fundamental continuing to engage with people because they are of great worth in God’s eyes makes all the business sense in the world.

I am used to some Christian gatherings that reinforce a clear division between church work and the other type of work that takes place beyond church. The set up in those Christian gatherings has a few specialists and others being spectators who sit and take in the expertise offered by those specialists. Anything else that someone may do or be good at beyond church doesn’t tend to fit and little to no room is made for what others can contribute that doesn’t fit. As such some are used to almost virtually being of little value other than the money they bring in and their attendance which makes the numbers look good.

This was not what Jesus had in mind for His Bride. That’s not what He rescued you from your sins and establish you in the light.

This thinking also states that all you do is done to Him. There should be a greater appreciation for just how strategically God has placed you wherever you may be. Light was not meant to be kept under a bushel. Salt was not designed to be kept to itself. All of life is an opportunity to be salt and light. That all includes engagement in Christian gatherings.

Wherever you may be, you are in a strategic position. Diligent and effective service in your life with your gifts and abilities, in your call can make such a crucial difference in the lives of those around you.

This is where embracing the value in where you are can do so much in helping you get used to being in your strategic position.
