It’s one thing to want something. It’s another to live an exemplary life that inspires the next generation to follow your lead.
It was interesting growing up in the culture I did. No one among my parents’ friends were what society might define as successful. They had jobs in the market or in factories. They themselves lived as though it was about scraping to make ends meet. The expectations for their offspring was to do much more. Their desire was for the children to do well in education and then get a great paying job that would get the income to get a good home for the spouse and children that surely would come.
Despite those aspirations many of the following generation could not and did not want the lecture. Their rebellious reaction stemmed from a very simple observation. Why should they be pressured to live the best, when the parents didn’t appear to be so ambitious?
This is why being a part of the Family of God places in great company. We not only serve an all-powerful God, but He has shown us the example of what it is to be live out heavenly aspirations.
Here is His Son looking to serve, not to be served. Here He is expressly putting forward what the Kingdom is all about. Here He is demonstrating those realities by healing diseases, raising people from the dead, indicating the restoration of all things under Christ.
Even when they thought they had Him sussed, His resurrection shocked people. His call to unity was inspiring and birthed in harmonious relationships.
His impact and the following outpouring of His Spirit turned thousands and millions to radically change their lives and count themselves to be known and loved by Him.
Following Him today is not about ticking boxes and being morally correct. It’s every day aspiring for His Kingdom to come and will be done on earth as it is in heaven. It’s about the inevitability of the Kingdom and the part you can play to celebrate it when it does.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
