See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1
Dysfunctional family.
The family somewhere to some degree suffers from areas where it doesn’t function as it should. What this suggests, then, is that there is a way families should function. Even in a secular setting which applies pressure marginalize faith views, there is a running concept of how things should run.
Reality remains that not every family can boast of being fully functional. It could be an issue with the youngest. It could be the squabbles between the children as well as between child and parent. So many ways the dysfunction expresses itself.
The way to go has been to accept it as just one of those things. Our heavenly Father, however, sent His Son to mend the broken hearted. He knows as well as anyone what it is to have squabbling offspring that put wedges to prevent peace.
The relationship between Father and Son indicates the way to functioning family. It’s weaved into the fabric of loving relationships. It cries out to see interactions between those in the family be the basis for healthy interactions in the community as a whole.
Words written in Holy Scripture about the family are the pointers to this way of life when the parents raise children to witness complimentary and mutually supportive relations. Understanding the role of cherishing life, honouring those who have gone on before, seeking the best in those we come across, firmly correcting when needed and celebrating success to support others – these values from the home and these characteristics embedded through faithful and committed love.
This looks at how that which was dysfunctional can be fruitful in functioning. Such can be seen as we see the type of love God gives us in appreciation being a part of His family.
