It is so hard to carry it.
Fears for the future. Worries about the past. Anxiety over relationships. Concern over security. These and so many other issues weight down people. There never appears to be any let up in the bombardment of every day life.
We can look at political, social, cultural and financial issues. Our perspective might be jaded and cynical. We feel the need to protect ourselves from causing too much in the world around us. So the load gets heavier as we look to struggle on thinking that this type of issue is so unique no one else could understand. No one else could handle it.
Unforgivable incidents haunt our movement. We carry other people in us and with us. It does no good whatsoever, but it doesn’t prevent great danger threatening loved ones. It stops any level of healthy relationship developing.
The atmosphere of church life can be so superficial and tensions can run deep with unresolved hurt and neglected pain mounting up to cause hurt and bitterness.
It was not supposed to be so. Jesus invites us to give Him all our burdens.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:6-7
