Have you ever been in a job that got so tough, you just came to the conclusion it was time to quit?
You may be able to have a degree of empathy for the situation Elijah found himself in. Having made a stand against the sinful King Ahab and his Baal-worshipping wife Queen Jezebel, Elijah had scored a big victory over the priests of Baal. But now there was hit put on him by the influential Jezebel.
His life at risk and as far as he knew he was alone. So alone. Just him. With a death sentence hanging over him. No wonder he asked God to take his life.
God’s response is fascinating. After travelling for 40 days and seeing natural phenomena, Elijah hears God addresses His issues. In the response He not only proves that Elijah is not the only one who has stayed faithful, but he entrusted to him an example to prepare to replace him.
That was grace in action. Not just let him finish, but let him end knowing his efforts would not be in vain.
Even if his notice was accepted.
It’s good to know that however bad things get in life, we don’t have to hand in our notice. God knows what we’re going through. Living for Him needs Him living in us and that means we don’t have to be so possessive over the things that happen to us. We can cast our cares on the one who cares for us.
We don’t have to hand in the notice.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
