A Machine Or A Body?

I have a great deal of respect for designers and engineers.

The pieces of technology they come up with, the constructs and mechanisms are indeed a wonder. What allows them to operate so well is the understanding that each work is made of pieces in places to function in a particular way.

Car, clock, television, mobile phone, you name it, they work in a particular way. If it goes wrong more often than not an expert can explain which function didn’t work and what piece is needed to replace it.

Some organisations work in the same way. Chief executive, board of directors, regional managers, centre managers, receptionists, secretaries, operatives. If someone doesn’t fit, we have steps to sort them to function appropriately. If they don’t, they are replaced by someone else to function.

Is church meant to function in the same way? Are brothers and sisters to be regarded as pieces of a machine to keep things ticking over and if anything goes wrong and they can’t be dealt with, they’re eased out in the hope of someone else replacing them?
