The story is straightforward.
My Dad met my Mum. They evidently had a good connection together so that when Dad asked Mum to marry him, she said yes. They moved to England and celebrated their union with their first child, a beautiful girl. Not long after that they gave birth to a second child, their first son. As if that wasn’t swift enough, even sooner after the birth of the boy they joined together and produced their third and final child, another son.
They invested their lives to ensuring their children were brought up in the best circumstances possible. They put any ambition they may have had to see their three children would do well.
The love of my Mum is very crucial to being who I am today.
Recently I had a look at 1 Kings 1 where the love of a mother ensured that she and her son were not treated like criminals when a presumptuous handsome man looked to usurp the throne. I am grateful that I don’t live in such a fractious family setting. I do know, however that my Mum will do whatever it takes to see that she and her children are never disadvantaged. Time after time, her fierce determination has seen her and her family weather some stormy periods in family life. Relentlessly she has persisted in pointing her children to God who sustains all things. Her lifestyle has been a testimony to that end.
Today she celebrated another year of God’s faithfulness in sustaining her and giving her health. I see a lot of her incredible attributes in my firstborn daughter, which bodes well for how the girl will turn out.
My siblings and I are only too aware of the amazing things our Mum has done and as we engage in parenthood ourselves we appreciate all the more the level of sacrifice and love our Mum displayed. I hope God grants my Mum more great days on earth being blessed by the fruits of her efforts.
For His Name’s Sake
