Jesus may well have had his moments of meekness and mildness. That did not mean he was unsure of Himself.
In fact so assured was he that he was even able to suggest strongly that all his audience had hoped for was summed up in Him. He even had the boldness to state that the religious icons of the people were surpassed by ‘something greater’.
I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. Matthew 12:6
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here. – Matthew 12:41-42
Something greater than the temple. Greater than a great prophet. Greater than the wisest man of international repute. Something greater was present.
Sometimes we get hung up on things and people we think are great – church building; church attendance; denominational affiliation; the buzz words and trends of the day; Christian superstar personalities; celebrities; money; health; work; family, etc. These have been lauded as big deals. Yet Jesus still says there is something greater.
He refers to none other than Himself and the Kingdom He demonstrates. He is far greater. Realising this changes our perspective on every day worries and troubles. We have a blessed assurance that while we struggle, the reality remains that as followers of Christ, we are blessed by the presence of Something greater.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom

Bearing in mind that meekness can be defined as strength under God’s control, as opposed to weakness and vacillation; Jesus character demonstrated meekness in every encounter. It was his meekness which allowed him to do what he did. Greatness comes from submission to God and Jesus was fully and meekly submissive.
