Jesus Curses

Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. – Matthew 11:20

The impression you can get of Jesus, is that He only said bad things of the religious rulers and other than that He was a cool, nice, placid kinda guy feeding thousands, healing many and talking about peace and love

As ever with assumptions, this perspective does not give a fair reflection on who Jesus is. This incident is a case in point.

What’s interesting is the reason why Jesus lets rip. The cities witnessed Him do great things. The Kingdom could not have been more apparent, the King’s invitation could not have been more evident. They took all this in and still refused to turn to Him.

You know you’re in trouble when Sodom comes off looking better than you. You know things are grim when Jesus has to refer to judgement and hell.

It’s actually very sobering to consider how important repentance is to Jesus. Especially in the light of His great works to us. To benefit from His goodness and grace and then to remain unmoved in the things that are crucial to Him – that is serious.

It is an amazing thing to be the recipient of His blessing. It would be in no one’s interests to be at the end of His judgment.

For His Name’s Sake
